The City of Columbia is pleased to announce that the Columbia Fire Department gained new leadership. City Manager Tony Massey announced that Interim Fire Chief Ty Cobb was selected to serve as the city’s permanent Fire Chief. The announcement was made at the July 13th Columbia City Council Meeting.

Having served as Interim Fire Chief of the 93-member department for just over one year, Cobb followed in the footsteps of retired Chief Tommy Hemphill, a 30 year veteran of the Columbia Fire Department. Chief Hemphill retired because of health reasons June 30th.

The public is invited to a reception for Chief Ty Cobb at 5 PM on Thursday, August 10, a half hour before the August City Council Meeting. The meeting will begin with a swearing in ceremony for Chief Cobb.
