The Inspections Division of the Engineering Department is supervised by Building Official Johnny McClanahan. The Inspections Division handles the issuance of building permits for new structures, additions, remodels or repairs, carport/garages, storage buildings, mobile homes, signs, swimming pools, change of use or occupancy, temporary structures, as well as plumbing, mechanical and gas permits. The building inspectors conduct inspections of all residential and commercial construction projects within the city limits. A 24-hour notice is required on all inspection requests except the final inspection which requires at least a two (2) business days notice. The Inspections Division also addresses code violations on properties within the city limits of Columbia. Contact the Inspections office at (931) 560-1540 to report code violations such as overgrown grass, trash/junk and debris, inoperable vehicles, and substandard or dilapidated structures. Tenant’s complaints on rental property must be filed in writing using the rental property complaint form. |
