This award was given in recognition of the City’s recreation and youth fitness engagement initiative for Riverwalk Park Fitness Zone. The projects that garnered this award are the Outdoor Fitness Zones located at Riverwalk and Fairview Parks.
The Outdoor Fitness Zones were designed with exercise stations ideally suited for those ages 14 and up and are built in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The City of Columbia and its Parks & Recreation Department partnered with Maury Regional Health Care Foundation and Columbia Breakfast Rotary to make these outdoor exercise fitness zones possible. The new facilities have been well received by people of all ages and fitness levels.
“I am grateful for such incredible community partners like Maury Regional Health Care Foundation and Columbia Breakfast Rotary, not to mention our Parks & Recreation Department and Public Works. Projects like this elevate our city and make other cities around us take note,” stated Mayor Chaz Molder.
The GNRC Local Government Awards honor partnerships and initiatives by local governments and public/private in the greater Nashville region, which have exhibited outstanding accomplishment and achievement or innovation in various areas of public service.
Columbia Parks & Recreation Director Mack Reagan is honored to be recognized by GNRC for the projects and the partnerships that made them happen. “The new Outdoor Fitness Zones provide our citizens even more opportunities to help enhance quality of life through regular exercise,” stated Reagan.
