Criminal Investigations / Detectives Division

The Columbia Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is supervised by Lieutenant Michelle Jones. Under Lt. Jones' command, three sergeants oversee day to day operations involving juvenile issues and generalized investigations. Seven detectives work all felony cases, with the exception of one, who is specialized in Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.

The Detectives investigate crimes including Murder, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assaults, Burglaries, Larcenies, Auto Thefts, Embezzlement & Fraud, and Forgery & Counterfeiting and Domestic Violence.

Over 1,500 cases a year are investigated and prosecuted by the detectives. Larcenies (thefts) make up the major portion of the work load.
