Over 95% of child safety seats are improperly installed. The Columbia Police Department is dedicated to child passenger safety. The Columbia Police currently has four certified child safety seat technicians. These technicians can inspect any child safety seat. After the technician checks the seat for defects and the recall list is checked, the seats are properly installed into the owners' vehicle. This program began in August of 2003.This service is free of charge. According to a national survey conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, 95 percent of all children are restrained improperly in child passenger safety seats, resulting in needless deaths and injuries. If you are having difficulty installing your seat, or would like us to check it for proper installation or for recalls, please call Officer Terry Peery at (931) 840-5977 or email tpeery@columbiatn.com. |
