RESERVE POLICE OFFICERS PROGRAM
The Columbia Police Department's Reserve Police Officer program is a force of 24 dedicated volunteers. To participate in the program the following criteria must be met:
- Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a high school graduate or GED
- Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to any charge or violation of any felony charge or to any federal or state laws or city misdemeanors relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances, and not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States
- Have his/her fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
- Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician
- Have a good moral character
- Be free of all apparent mental disorders
INITIAL TRAINING (Pre-Selection)
- Reserve Police Officer applicant/candidates must complete a minimum of 100 hours of training before being selected as a Reserve Police Officer.
FIELD TRAINING (Post Selection)
- Reserve Police Officers who are selected shall be assigned to a field-training officer. Reserve Police Officers shall be evaluated on their overall performance and observations of the Chief Of Police, Assistant Chiefs of Police, Supervisory Personnel, Field-Training Officer, and feedback from full-time Police Officers.
- Each Reserve Police Officer shall complete a minimum of 40 hours of in-service training each year.
- To remain in the program, all Reserve Police Officers shall be required to work a minimum of sixteen (16) hours (average) per calendar month.
