How is my sewer bill calculated?

Sewer bills are calculated by adding a "User Fee" and a "Volume Fee".  The volume fee is determined by multiplying the volume rate by the number of thousand gallons water used.  Volume fees for residential customers may be based on average gallons of water used during the service months of November through April (the averaging period).  Volume fees will be based on actual gallons used until an averaging period has been completed.

My residence is on a septic system and I am being charged for sewer.  Why?

When public sewer becomes available to property, a connection to the sewer is required.  The property owner is responsible for making application and acquiring proper permits to connect to public sewer.  The property owner is also responsible for the cost and installation of the private sewer service line.   (The portion of line between the house and the public sewer is the private sewer service line.)  Inspection, installation and connection fees may be applicable at the time of permit issuance.

Can I connect to public sewer ?

Customers will need to provide information regarding the property address and owner's name.   Our personnel will determine if sewer is available to the property.  If sewer is available, permit fees will be calculated and a permit can be issued for the connection.   For more information, please contact us.

Can you locate and mark the sewer lines on my property?

We will locate and mark main public sewer lines only.  Private service lines (the portion of sewer line between the structure and the public sewer main) will not be located or marked by Wastewater personnel.  Information on the location of private service lines is not on file at our office.  You may want to contact a plumber for assistance in locating the private service lines on your property. Please contact us with details of the work being done or the affected area.

Will my sewer bill be affected when I fill my swimming pool?

Customers with sewer bills based on actual water usage could see an increase in their sewer bill when water usage is increased.  If you have questions regarding your sewer bill, please contact us .  Be prepared to provide details regarding the pool dimensions and the dates involved.

How will a water leak affect my sewer bill?

Residential accounts are usually based on an average gallons of water used during November-April. Therefore, a leak  may not affect the sewer bill.  However, leaks that occur during the averaging period (November - April) may affect the next year's average calculation.  If you have experienced a water leak, contact us with details regarding the leak, the duration and the repair.

Why is my sewer bill the same every month?

Volume fees for residential customers are calculated using the 6-month average gallons of water used.  The usage during the months of November through April will be used to calculate the average.  During warmer months, outside water usage may increase for activities such as watering lawns, gardens or filling pools.   The amount of water used for those activities should not impact the sewer system.  During the month of May, a new average will be available and will automatically be used to calculate the volume fee for the account.  (Customers with new service will be billed on actual monthly water usage until an entire averaging period has been completed at the service address.)

My sewer line is leaking or needs to be repaired.  What is required?

Contact us to obtain a sewer repair permit.  The repair or installation of a new line is the responsibility of the property owner and must be installed according to code requirements. An inspection is required prior to covering the new or repaired line.  Owners hiring plumbers to correct such problems must insure the proper permits have been obtained prior to beginning any line repairs or replacements.

I am having sewer problems.  What do I need to do?

Call (931) 560-1001.  At the menu prompt, select the option for "Sewer Emergencies".  Maintenance personnel are available 24 hours a day.  Your call will be forwarded to a voicemail box where you will be asked to provide information about your sewer problem.  Please include your name, address, phone number and brief details about the problem.  The phone system will automatically contact the person on call and they will be provided with your recorded information.  We will check the main sewer at no charge to the resident.   Our maintenance crews will correct any problems with the main sewer.  If the main sewer is working properly and a sewer problem is still present, the property owner may be advised to contact a plumber at his/her own expense.

Can my sewer bill be based on the gallons of water used each month instead of the average gallons?

Customers may submit a written request to be billed on the actual gallons of water used (actual usage) in each billing cycle.  This is a common request for customers that may have experienced a water leak or large water usage during the averaging period.  Customers  who continue water service when a residence is vacated for a long period of time may request this change also.  Once an account has been revised to actual usage billing, the account cannot return to the average method of billing until a new averaging period has been completed.   During the month of May, a new average will be available and will automatically be applied to the account to calculate the volume fee.   Customers wishing to continue on actual usage billing must submit another written request at that time.   Click here for information on how and where to submit a written request for actual usage billing or contact us.
