Development Requirements

These requirements have been established to assist development applicants (PDF), architects and contractors in determining the minimum requirements for fire protection systems, emergency access/gates, and fire apparatus access roads. It will provide the minimum design, installation, testing, and inspection procedures in the City of Columbia.

Exit Analysis Plans

Provide an exit analysis plan (PDF) as prepared, stamped, and signed by a Tennessee State licensed Architect.

Fire Lane Policy

To assist in the preparation and submittal of required details for fire lanes (PDF) on plans, the following minimum information shall be provided: vehicular travel way areas located on private property where parking or other obstructions have been prohibited for life safety reasons, a means of providing continual emergency vehicle access for multi-family, commercial and industrial developments shall comply with the following details. Additional information may be required on a case-by-case basis as determined by the Fire Marshal.

Mobile Food Vending Checklist & Permit Information

Apply for a Mobile Food Vendor Permit (PDF) through the City Recorder's Office. Complete the attached permit and checklist.

Special Events Tenting Guidelines & Application

Special Events Tenting Permit (PDF) is required for temporary structures over 400 square feet. 

On-Demand Mobile Fueling Application

All mobile fueling operations that dispense Class I, II, and III liquids into the fuel tanks of motor vehicles shall apply for a permit and meet the attached 2018 IFC requirements.
