Changes to Accepted Recycle ItemsEffective Immediately: All Recycle customers please note the City of Columbia's Public Works Department has been notified by the recycle processor that the following items will be the ONLY items they will accept as recyclable:

* #1 - #2 plastics (Please look on the container to find the number)
* Aluminum/tin cans
* Paper (newspapers, brochures, inserts, file folders, office paper, greeting cards, mail, paper bags) No shredded paper.
* Paper boxes (cereal, pasta, tissue, etc)
* Cardboard (pizza boxes with no food debris, food boxes with no food debris, cardboard boxes flattened)
* Magazines
*Catalogs

Residents who misuse the recycling container as a secondary household trash container or contaminate recycle container with unacceptable items will have their recycle container permanently removed and will not be allowed to receive another recycle container.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may create, however, if we do not follow the guidelines set forth by the recycle processor, we will not be allowed to continue taking our recycle products to the recycle facility.
